WHAT IS KAWAII SWEET WORLD?

Kawaii Sweet World is the baking and crafting YouTube channel I started in December 2010 when I was 12-years-old. “Kawaii” is the Japanese word for cute, and it describes the adorable style of characters like Hello Kitty, Pusheen, Pikachu, and more. At the time I started my channel, Kawaii Sweet World was a place where I could simply share my love for creating cute crafts and treats.

KSW became a more serious endeavor to me when I signed with Tastemade in 2012, making me their youngest partner at the time. They provided me with a manager and more professional guidance, allowing me to grow my channel at an even more accelerated rate through collaborations with other YouTubers

All throughout middle school and high school, I continued posting videos and growing my audience, and eventually reached over one million subscribers on YouTube. Seeing the fast-paced growth of my channel, I then took a gap year to pursue KSW full-time before attending Stanford.

During my gap year, I loved being able to fully devote my time to expanding KSW, and then my manager and I decided to take the brand to the next level by sending out a cookbook proposal. Shortly after, we signed with Clarkson Potter, the cookbook imprint of Penguin Random House, and the KSW cookbook was a go!

I wrote the cookbook during my freshman and sophomore years at Stanford, fueled by plenty of coffee and enthusiasm, and am now excited for the book release date on July 30th, 2019.

While it hasn’t always been easy to juggle KSW, school, and the cookbook, it’s always been very rewarding work to me knowing I get to share my passion for creativity with others. And beyond my love for baking and crafting, I hope to be a role model for my young subscribers as well. In particular, I hope to show them you can love baking, crafting, and kawaii things all while having an equal affinity for engineering and STEM.
